January Hobby Challenge 2011

Hello 2011.  We would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very Happy New Year and we hope that you will have a blessed year.  As with everything new,  we would like to welcome on board another new member to our Design Team - she is non other than Sharmandeswari. To view more of Sharman's beautiful works of art,  please visit her personal blog here.

Now on to the challenge - With each coming month,  we continue to unveil our latest challenge - this month courtesy from our DT Coordinator Yatie.

Here is the challenge details:

Do you know that January is the NATIONAL HOBBY MONTH? Isn't it great that we have a whole month to indulge in our hobbies? Well, technically anyways. So for January, I would like for you to make a 12x12 or 8.5 x 11 layout on your OTHER hobby(ies) apart from scrapbooking. The twist of the challenge is that you have to INCLUDE SOME KIND OF ELEMENT OF YOUR HOBBY in the layout, not counting the photo. e.g. like me, I like beading so I can include beads in the layout. Or if you like swimming, then a water element should be included say a stamped or doodle of waves. Or if your hobby is shopping you can include tags from your purchases.
Here is DT Yatie's take on the challenge.  She has very cleverly added elements of her other hobby which is beading onto her layout making it such a unique piece of work.

DT Amelia with her Jazzercise routine packs a punch with so much energy with the numbers and photos.

Listening to music is another hobby of DT Jessy's and she has very cleverly used some music scores to emphasize her hobby.

Need we say more with DT Nad's take?  A self-professed shopaholic with her tags and photos of her shopping - she has a lady's ultimate favourite hobby scrapped there.  :)

Sharman debuts with a beautiful romantic layout which reflects on her favourite hobby which is reading romantic novels and beach getaways.  Love the intricate work here.

DT Wati has caught the travelling bug and we love the way she has included her air ticket stub and stamp in her misted layout.

Photography is DT MIchelle's other favourite hobby.  She has included a self-made camera with herself in the lens in her take on the challenge.

What is your take on this challenge?  We look forward to learning more on your other hobbies than scrapbooking and here is the RAK generously donated by DT Yatie.

Flaggy November Challenge

Another month is upon us again and its time to share with you our latest challenge courtesy of DT Nadia.  She has come up with quite a novel way of challenging us using colours.  Challenge details are below:

Please scrap a layout (12 x 12 or other sizes) based on the colours of a flag.  You may choose a flag from any country in your layout and the only requirement is that you will need to choose only 1 flag for your layout.

The DTs have come up with different interpretations as per the flags chosen and here they are in no particular order:

DT Nad has decided to use the Finnish flag for her layout whilst lounging in a boat on a vacation:

Brilliant colours are definitely the call of the day from DT Yatie in her take from the Brazillian Flag.

DT Jessy has Dutch in her blood and without saying - she has chosen the flag of Netherland.

DT Amelia has chosen the very cool baby blue Argentinian flag to scrap her son's layout.

The Kosovo flag colours are the same with DT Michelle's daughter's swimming club!

Here is the RAK that you will stand to win if you are chosen to our Challenge Winner this month:

This is an exciting RAK featuring items from Scarlet Lime Kits.  So do send us a layout if you wish to win this RAK.

What Is In My Bag October 2010 Challenge

Its time for another brand new challenge here at Scrap-it-lah.  We are pleased to unveil our slightly invasive "What is in your handbag?" Challenge.  We thought it would be fun to document some day to day life scenarios and one of the things that we women can't do without is our handbags.  We would like you to take a photo/photos of your handbag and the contents of it and scrap it into a layout for us this month.

Most of the DTs came up with the usual list of things in their respective bags and only 2 DTs had cameras in their bags.  We have a very messy DT here too and do check out their layouts to find out what our DTs carry around with them in their bags.

Don't we love DT Jessy's white and red combination? A hand sanitizer in this day and age is definitely a must!

DT Yatie has listed all the things she can't do without in her bag.
DT Amelia sharing her secret stash in her bag.
Love how DT Nad has neatly categorised all her stuff in different little mini bags.
DT Michelle with her very messy bag.

DT Nadhrah is thrilled with the latest addition in her bag.

September Scraplift Challenge

What is scraplifting?  Scraplifting is simply defined would be the copying of other people's idea or work for your layouts. Scraplifting is often a sticky topic for most scrapbookers.  Should we do it or not?  It is often convenient when one is low in creative juices or mojo but at the same time the person who we have scraplifted the ideas from is not so appreciative that we copied their ideas.  Why?  More often than not,  it takes time to think of something new or creative to be used in the layout.  Seeing the idea duplicated without any reference naturally upsets the creator.

However,  some scrappers find it flattering when others copy their ideas.  For us here,  the general rule would be that if we do need to borrow ideas from anyone else,  it would be great to just credit the creator.  It is not hard - just needs some linking or reference to where you have seen such an idea - no sweat.

This month,  all the DTs have long admired their co-DTs works of art and we have decided to scraplift each other's work and we would you like to play along with us.

All you have to do is to choose a piece of layout which you like from any of our DTs,  scrap it and send it back to us.  Please don't forget to tell us on where you took the layout from.  Another important thing to remember is that please do take the layouts which are not based on any sketches from other sites.

DT Jessy scraplifted from DT Yatie's My Guy layout.

DT Nad scraplifted Jessy's cute little lo on her family and turned into a best friend's layout.

DT Amelia grunged up her scraplifted layout from DT Nad's Friendship layout.

DT Michelle scraplifted DT Amelia's daughter's layout.

Lastly,  DT Yatie turned DT Michelle's boyish layout into a girlish cheery one.

Here is the yummy RAK that we have prepared for you this month:

1)  9 pieces of Glitter,  Flocked and Embossed paper by Me and My Big Ideas
2)  Pink Paislee Artisan Tape
3)  Maya Road Banner Album
4)  Thickers Alphas

"I now know" August challenge

Feelings,  nothing more than feelings. What are we driving at?  We want to know what these 3 little words - "I now know" strike in your mind?  For some of our DTs,  they evoke a myriad of different emotions.  This month,  we will like to challenge you to delve inside your feelings and scrap a 12 by 12 layout using these 3 simple words:  "I now know...."

Yatie strikes us with a very beautiful touching layout.

Amelia basks in her love for her family.

Nad expresses her love for her hubby and siblings in her take.

Jessy delights in knowing her peppers.

Michelle reminisces on her daughter being all grown up.

Nadhrah coming to terms with her feelings of having a daughter.

This is the yummy Pink Paislee RAK we have prepared for the winner of this month.  We hope to receive lots of beautiful submissions from you.  In the meantime,  Scrap-It-Lah out!
